Company History
Pierre Larmoyeux, Sr, founded Peninsular Electric Distributors, Inc, in May 1946. Mr. Larmoyeux had worked for the FBI for a number of years and had wanted to return to his home state of Florida. He returned with his family and started a business in the Electrical Wholesale in the Spring of 1946.
During the forties and fifties, Palm Beach County was primarily a resort and vacation area. Mr. Larmoyeux’s business catered to the construction trade, and the electrical contractors who were involved in many projects around the county.
The business itself was orginally located in downtown West Palm Beach. As the business grew a new location and building were required. In the beginning, Peninsular Electric Distributors started with two delivery trucks, thirteen employees, and the warehouse was 25,000 square feet. Today, the business has thirteen delivery trucks, three vans, seventy employees, and 65,000 square feet.
In the almost forty years at the current location, the owners have doubled the size of the physical plant. They have focused efforts on being an excellent distributor and exemplary community business member.
Pierre Larmoyeux Sr. passed away in 1998. We believe his vision and legacy of an excellent business has survived the passage of time
During the sixties, Pierre’s son, Pierre Larmoyeux Jr joined the business. He developed and maintained a strong sales presence as the county continued to grow as a major resort and retirement area. Pierre Jr., thought the world of each and every customer. According to Pierre Jr. the customer was number one, and that was – and still is the company culture here. Peninsular became known as “The Service Center” to all customers who were willing to place their faith in the small, family owned, independent electrical distributor.
In 2003, Pierre Larmoyeux Jr. passed away leaving the business to his son John M. Larmoyeux, and the third generation of the Larmoyeux family to run the business. John continues to carry on his family’s vision of an exceptional business that has survived the changes of time.
Over the years Peninsular Electric Distributors has grown to become one of the largest small businesses in this area. As times have changed, so has the business. Peninsular now has internet access through Epicor to accommodate all of our customers and vendors. All of our departments are highly trained personnel and our sales force is one of the best in the area.
The Larmoyeux family and the employees of Peninsular Electric Distributors, Inc. continue to strive to keep the vision and the legacy of Pierre Sr. and Pierre Jr. to be a good place to work as well as “the” source of material for our customers.
